Continue reading »]]> I am just not a blogger.  It is painfully obvious to me.  I can’t think of things to write and the thought to do something usually only occurs to me when my A.D.D. kicks in at work or when I’m waiting on someone else or…

I guess I could be a tweeter but even coming up with 140 characters with any real regularity can prove to be difficult.  I have nuggets of funny sometimes but most of my humor is contextual and quit honestly it mostly consists of derogatory references to myself or my brother’s mother.

Just not something that I do well.  I just can’t get what is on my head out on the Interwebs as fast as I am thinking it. That and what I am thinking and writing might now be all that insightful or amusing to anyone but me.  Maybe when those matrix things they cram into your spine become real then the ‘net can keep up with me.

Or I should stop being lazy about it.  That will be one of my short goals.  To write something daily… here’s to day one.  Sláinte! <–there be an almost Irish toast word.. I don’t know how to make the ‘a’ with the thing over it. No wait.. I figure it out.

• Akismet - Blocks spam in comments
• NextGEN Gallery – Photo gallery
• Social Login - Allows visitors to interact with your site using Social Networks as an authenticator
• WP Maintenance Mode – Puts a Site Down for Maintenance splash on your page while you work on it
• Last.fm Recently Played – Puts your last.fm scrobble in a widget on your site.
• All-in-One Event Calendar

Continue reading »]]> I like to watch progress bars.  I went to school to watch them.  I have a degree in progress bar watching.  I’m watching them right now.  I watch them in my sleep.  Not really.  Found out today there is a critical security update for Windows that allows a hacker to take over a machine via RDP.  This requires an immediate patch as I use this for several servers.  I need to be more vigilant about updating the servers but I’m always afraid Microsoft is going to break something with an update.  They may be a thing of the past but I just don’t like to fix stuff that isn’t broken.  Anyway, updating.  Progress bars.  I need to be leaving.  I need to have already left.

A certain girl and I have a date with the playground and times a wasting.  Stupid updates.

Continue reading »]]> I’ll admit it again. Who has two thumbs and is not a HTLM/CSS expert.  This guy.

While this Graphene Theme is awesome, I am was puzzled by the fact that my post titles remained blue despite changing all the color options in the theme to what I thought were good colors.  Strange that they should remain blue when there was no blue code to be found.  To the forums!

On the Graphene official support forums, I learned of Firebug, which allows you to inspect elements of a page.  Handy!  After tinkering with my page for a bit, I discovered for whatever reason that the post title “computed color” was #1772AF which was blue.  Why? Where did that come from?  Why is that option not in the theme?

How to fix it?  I found that you can add custom CSS to the Graphene theme.   This snippet of CSS is posted into the theme under the Display, Custom CSS section.  After adding this custom CSS code.. boom everything is normal.

Continue reading »]]> Here we are again.  My personal website.  I have had it for God knows how long but I have never really done anything with it.  I guess I’ve never been really happy with the way it looked.  While I know and understand the inner workings of the web, I am by no means an expert when it comes to web development.  Not. at. all.  There is a finite amount of time in the day and I don’t want to spend it looking at website code tweaking graphic placement and font sizes.

Thanks to some hackers, all of my websites that I manage got jacked up.  Thanks guys! So I’ve had to rebuild.  I started with mine because mine isn’t important.  I have always liked WordPress.  Now I found possibly the best theme I have ever seen.  The few websites I manage are about to take on a whole new life.  They will look better than they ever have.  These two things make it quick and easy.

Oh well.  Back to tinkering.
